Ethical Fur

What is Ethical Fur?

In my craft, I honor the spirits of nature and the sanctity of all living beings by using only what is freely given. The 'ethical fur' I create is born from the sheared fleece of sheep, their wool a gift freely offered, never taken through harm. These fibers are gathered from distant lands, chosen with reverence for the animals and the hands that tend them. Each source I select must uphold the sacred bond of care and kindness, ensuring the livestock are cherished and well-guarded under the watchful gaze of their keepers.

The Shave 'em to Save 'em Initiative

I take great pride in sourcing my fleece from shepherds who are honored within the SE2SE community, a network of stewards dedicated to preserving the old ways. In my journey to honor the land and its creatures, I stand with The Livestock Conservancy's Shave 'Em to Save 'Em Initiative, a noble effort supported by the Manton Foundation. This sacred program celebrates fiber artists who work with the wool of rare breeds, forging a path to connect these shepherds of heritage breeds with those who cherish their craft.

The Livestock Conservancy has long shared a truth: to save the endangered breeds of our livestock, they must have purpose. For wool-bearing sheep, this means bringing their wool back into our hands, honoring its place in our work. Yet, because of modern challenges, some shepherds are forced to discard or compost the wool after shearing. This initiative invites artisans to weave with the wool of rare breeds, teaches shepherds how to prepare and offer their harvest to the world, and creates a profitable path that sustains the heritage breeds for generations to come.
