The Sámi were an indigenous people who lived in the same area as the Norse during the Viking Age, which took place from roughly the ninth to the twelfth century. They traditionally hunted, fished, traded, and herded reindeer. They were known for their distinct culture, language, traditional clothing, handcraft, and music. Norsemen unfortunately were known to pressure the Sámi for tribute.
