Sheepskin Mantles

A Word on My Fleece Mantles

I find my greatest joy in working with what the good earth provides. Just as I tend my garden, I have a fondness for tending to the finest, long-locked sheepskin fleeces, transforming them into something to warm you through many a blustery winter.

There is a simple, honest warmth to a fleece mantle that no finer-woven cloth can match. It is the comfort of the hearth on a cold night, the shelter of a friendly embrace against the sea-borne wind. Each mantle I create begins with a fleece chosen for its long, silken locks, heavy and rich, that drape with a grace all their own.

I offer my mantles in two ways, so you may find the one that best suits your fancy.

For those who love the pure, unadorned beauty of the fleece itself, I make a Plain-Cut Mantle. This is the fleece in its truest form, shaped and secured to sit handsomely upon your shoulders, with no frippery to detract from the noble simplicity of the wool. It is a sturdy, honest piece, and I am fond of it. Both long-backed cape and shoulder options are options.

For a touch more gentility, I offer mantles with a Needlefelted Neckline. With many a careful poke of my needle, I work the fibres at the collar into a firm and tidy edge. It gives a finished look, neat and lasting, that sits beautifully and wears with great fortitude.

And for those who wish for something truly their own, I am pleased to create Custom Felted Designs for the neckline. Perhaps a Viking knot? Or a pattern of rolling waves? Maybe a simple fern frond? If you have a design in your heart, tell me of it. With my needle and a bit of core wool, I can felt it upon the neckline of your mantle, making a piece that is yours and yours alone.

My pricing is done in the old way, with no mystery to it. I charge only for the cost of the materials... for I will use nothing but the best... and for the time my hands are at work. I take the minimum wage of this region as my hourly rate, for I believe an honest day's work deserves an honest wage. From the sorting of the fleece to the last stitch or the final poke of the felting needle, you are paying for the artistry, time and care poured into your garment.

So, if you feel the chill coming in and fancy a garment of true warmth and character, you have come to the right place. I shall be here, by the fire, with a fleece across my lap.
