Around the face runs plum cotton embroidery set by hand, each stitch laid in the manner our ancestors once knew by firelight... a line of dusk-berry warmth against the deep blue, like the last color left in the sky before dark.

The Skjoldehamn Hood is a well-preserved Viking Age (c1050-1090 AD) wool hood found in a Norwegian bog burial, notable for its unique construction from rectangular and square pieces of fabric and its distinct seam placement that provided warmth and protection from the elements. The original garment was discovered in 1936 alongside other clothing items and remains of a body on the island of Andøya, and it is considered a significant piece of evidence for clothing practices in the late Viking Age, with potential connections to both Norse and Sami cultures.
