Viking Age Nålbinding Hat

Viking Age Nålbinding Hat

Feast the eyes upon this cap of clever craft! Made with the Oslo stitch... the very stitch the Vikings themselves used... it will guard thy head against frost, fog, and the long night. Look well at the colors: fjord-blue, deep as the sea at dusk; charcoal, dark as the brooding presence of storm clouds, and forest-green rich as Yule boughs. A cap with a Nisse’s mischief stitched in its tail, finished with a tassel bound in gleaming jewels quality pewter to catch the eye and stir the fancy. Soft merino and strong Corriedale wool together, a blend fit for warmth and wanderings alike... best claim it quick, lest it be gone from under the very nose! Perfect for reenactment.

What is Nålbinding?

Nålbinding is an art older than wheel or knitting-needle... was the way of our forebears when longships split the seas and hearths glowed against the northern dark. With but one needle and a patient hand, they looped yarn into socks, mittens, and caps stout enough to turn winter’s bite. Each stitch is a knot, each loop a binding spell of sorts, holding fast so no thread may ever slip. It's  a craft of memory and quiet will, linking us straight to those who once feasted in mead-halls and strode frost-bound paths a thousand winters gone.
