Viking Birka Hat Nalbinding
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Birka-style cap is among the most well-documented headwear of the Viking Age, its evidence drawn from the grave goods of Birka, Sweden. This one is worked in the ancient technique of nålbinding, stitched in the round from the crown outward in the manner the old makers used, the spiral of its making still visible at the top if you know to look for it.
The wool used here is thick handspun Icelandic wool acquired from my friends at Legacy Lamb , natural grey trimmed with dark chocolate brown. Warm and historically grounded.
Fits up to a 24" head circumference
Handcrafted by Mairwen of Heksedans. Bulky merino wool, nålbound by hand. Small variations are the mark of the maker.
