Cut to the shape of the Skjoldehamn hood, this piece carries the story of the old north. It comes now in two pairings, each linen laid against linen... both soft, both kind to the skin, as though spun for comfort by the Norns themselves.

There is Moss and Sage, bright spring green set against pale sage, the colors of new leaves and the first soft growth after the thaw, its face traced round with rust-red cotton embroidery like the last coals of a dying fire. And there is Sun Gold and Natural, warm gold beside undyed flax, low autumn light caught in cloth, its edge worked in slate blue, the hue of far water under a clouded sky. Every stitch is set by hand, in the manner our ancestors once knew by firelight.

The Skjoldehamn Hood is a well-preserved Viking Age (c1050-1090 AD) wool hood found in a Norwegian bog burial, notable for its unique construction from rectangular and square pieces of fabric and its distinct seam placement that provided warmth and protection from the elements. The original garment was discovered in 1936 alongside other clothing items and remains of a body on the island of Andøya, and it is considered a significant piece of evidence for clothing practices in the late Viking Age, with potential connections to both Norse and Sami cultures.
